WIR | Writers United – Malcom Jacobson + Martha Cooper

So I have a section called ‘What I’m Listening To’ (WILT), now it’s time for ‘What I’m Reading’… which will shortly be followed by ‘What I’m Watching’.

These sections aren’t necessarily featuring brand new releases of books/zines, tunes, documentaries or films but things that I think you should know about and judge for yourself or just have a quick mosey over (if you already haven’t).

There’s a lot of interesting stuff out there and some of it gets lost in the past!

So for the first ‘WIR’ let me present to you about Writers United by Martha Cooper.

I’m going to be honest here, it’s not often I read books and when I do it’s either because somebody has told me it’s so good that I have to, or it’ll be one of less words and more pictures and I end up avoiding most of the words. This book though has me hooked! It’s got to be one of the best graffiti books Ive read! I won’t go in to too much detail as obviously I think you should read it yourself but this is a definite must read.

Journalist Bjorn Almqvist and photographer Emil Hagelin basically followed WUFC around for several years and managed to capture some sick moments and stories with the Swedish Crew creating an intimate look in to their lives with amazing photo’s and interviews with the crew. Writers United Football Club is made up of 6 guys. Having got up heavily on steel, subways and walls etc it’s a given that there are some funny, intense and just generally interesting reads about the sticky situ’s these writers got in to! I’m going to leave it at that and hope that you pick up a copy for yourself, it’s definitely worth it!
