Our Pick: Top 5 Day Festivals

At the heart of the annual music calendar and a summer staple, festivals are always a yearly highlight for artists and ravers alike. Forever being asked recommendations and top tips, I’ll be picking out my favourite events leading up to summer, starting with daytime festivals. For those that love a good session in a field but equally love their bed and a hot shower to come home to, take a peek at our guide to this summer’s weightiest daytime parties…

One For The Grime Lovers…

In the heart of East London, Rinse FM brings Born & Bred back for a second year. Stages hosted by Lord Of The Mics, FWD>> and Swamp81 guarantee a bass heavy sound with the likes of legends Wiley & Slimzee, Benga & Sgt. Pokes, Josey Rebelle and MssingNo gracing the stage of Haggerston Park.
The festival has expanded into a two day event with a full weekend ticket option available and you can grab them here: http://haggerston.net/

One For Sun And Sounds…

If you all your favourite artists in one city under the sun then Sonar is your shout. Consistently outdoing themselves year by year, Sonar is back for 2016 with pretty much every artist under the sun. Not strictly for raving,  Sonar is able to unite established artists with emerging talent, in all areas of musical and audiovisual production. It’s no surprise Sonar is a go to for electronic music enthusiasts wanting to catch all their heroes and newcomers in one weekend. The festival also hosts a variety of after parties “Sonar by Night” so if you fancy extended the party until the sun comes up, make sure you cop your night time shouts

One For Variety…

May Bank Holiday is always a heavy one. Spring is in full swing, the days are longer, the pub gardens are open and everyone is getting gassed for the Summer ahead. The heavyweight festival champions over at Bestival bring Common People to Oxford for the first time this May with a stellar line up ranging from Duran Duran to The Sugarhill Gang. Bringing with them The Big Top hosted by David Rodigan on Saturday and Drum and Bass masters Hospitality on the Sunday, there is something for everyone, as well as guaranteed 110% quality on the aesthetics of the weekend.

One For A Throwback…

Two Words: Nelly. Kano. Although only it’s second year running, Strawberries & Creem are well at the top of this year’s superior line ups. The 15 year old me is dying inside just looking at it. With UK Funky throwbacks from Crazy Cousinz, ultimate school crush Kano and taking it back to the jungle sound with Benton, you’re guaranteed to be dancing all day and singing along for weeks after. Did I mention they have booked NELLY?!?!

One For Modern Music Legends…

Tramlines is back to Sheffield in 2016 with a line up full of the figureheads of modern music. Headliner Dizzee Rascal, the pioneer of grime, Toddla T, UK dancehall champion, Goldie, the father of Drum & Bass all accompany name after name of mindblowing acts that are famous for bringing a performance to their sound. The festival takes place across inner city venues and is a perfect alternative for Northern cities that don’t want the trek to London dominated day festival scene.
